What Sets the Maximo User Group Apart? Our Takeaways from Dundee 2026

Last week, the DNASTREAM team had the pleasure of attending the IBM Maximo User Group event in Dundee, and we're still reflecting on what made it such a valuable gathering.

Held on Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th May in Dundee, the City of Discovery, (Captain Scott’s Ship is moored there) this two-day event was packed with innovation, learning, and numerous networking opportunities. Having attended user group events in partnership with various vendors over the years, this one truly stood out from the crowd. Here's why.

The Perfect Product Footprint

One of the key factors that made this event so successful was what we'd call the "Goldilocks" product footprint. Maximo is extensive, but not too much. All attendees shared enough common ground. This meant that regardless of industry, participants could easily relate to each other's challenges and experiences. With larger product suites, this level of connection can be difficult to achieve due to the wider range of use cases.

Enthusiastic Users Drive Meaningful Conversations

The energy in the room was palpable. Most Maximo users have worked with the product for a considerable period, have already reaped substantial benefits, and can clearly see the vast potential still waiting to be unlocked. This enthusiasm translated into meaningful conversations throughout the event, particularly during the round table sessions, where attendees heard directly from Maximo users about their wins, challenges, and innovations.

The Special Sauce: Collaborative Sub-Groups

If we had to pinpoint the magic ingredient of this event, it would be the collaborative sub-groups working together on a theme of common interest. These communities were strongly bound together through in-person site visits and shared learnings cutting across industries.  The openness and willingness to collaborate was genuinely refreshing and created an atmosphere of mutual support and knowledge exchange.

DNASTREAM on the Ground

It was fantastic to meet so many people at the DNASTREAM stand over the two days. We had brilliant conversations about the challenges organisations face with their Maximo implementations and how we can help unlock even greater value from the platform. On the day, we were promoting PSO for Maximo and Verusen for Maximo two solutions that generated significant interest from delegates looking to improve workforce scheduling and Inventory Optimsation within their Maximo environments.

"The IBM Maximo team were very well engaged with users at the event, both in explaining the future roadmap and solving specific issues. There was a genuine interest and confidence from the delegates that if they aligned on suggested improvements, IBM would take note. That level of vendor engagement is rare and makes a real difference."

Looking Forward

The event showcased an impressive range of partners offering implementation services, managed services, and add-on products, reinforcing that there's a solid and innovative ecosystem to depend on. The user group leadership, comprised entirely of active users, were fully immersed in delegate activities and discussions, with the shape of future events clearly driven by audience feedback.

At DNASTREAM, we're proud to be part of such a vibrant and collaborative community. Events like this remind us why we're dedicated to helping organisations maximise their Maximo investment. With this year's event generating huge excitement and another full house in attendance, we're already looking forward to the next gathering!
